Tom Sovel, PE has more than 37 years of experience in the industry, starting with transportation projects and municipal engineering for a few years before working on land development projects for the last 34. In his current position as Director of the Land Development Department, Tom provides oversight for all planning and design involved with land development, ranging from simple pavement repairs to new developments. Tom earned his degree from Michigan State University and is a licensed professional engineer in 39 states and Washington DC.
A member of the Spalding DeDecker team since 1988, Tom has had a front-row seat to the growth and changes that have taken place at Spalding DeDecker over the past 35-plus years. When asked what his favorite thing is about working at Spalding DeDecker, he stated, “I enjoy the challenges of every project and working to find cost effective and creative solutions, and being able to work with and develop a staff that is dedicated to success in all that we do.”
During his spare time, Tom enjoys vacations with his wife Jackie in the Caribbean and exploring the western United States, as well as trips to northern Michigan as often as he can! He enjoys downhill skiing, and has been able to travel to Keystone, Park City, Deer Valley, Big Sky, Heavenly, and Whistler, British Columbia for ski trips.
