Spalding DeDecker (SD) is helping the City of Novi with a multi-year project that will upgrade the aging asbestos-cement water mains that are located throughout the City.
First, SD developed a city-wide asset scoring system to evaluate each segment based on age, size, location, and break history, establishing probability-of-failure and consequence-of-failure ratings to prioritize replacement needs. This planning tool helped the City plan $15 million of improvements into phased construction years.
With phasing in place, SD provided full design and construction engineering services for targeted replacements, including roadway, storm sewer, and driveway restoration. Narrow roadways and installation restrictions required innovative traffic control plans to maintain residential access during construction. The completed improvements deliver a reliable water system, enhanced neighborhood roadways and sidewalks for Novi residents to enjoy.
