Spalding DeDecker (SD) provided design and Construction Engineering services for pedestrian safety improvements on the Cascade Road Bridge over the Thornapple River in Cascade Township. The project improved separation between vehicles and pedestrians by adding a wider shared use path, new railings, and decorative lighting that fits the surrounding corridor. Our team supported the project from survey and design through construction, including inspection, contract administration, and materials testing coordination to help ensure a smooth and successful build.
Working together, SD’s design and construction teams addressed existing bridge constraints, utility conflicts, and the need to maintain traffic throughout construction. Improvements included reconstructing key bridge elements to support the new path and railings while maintaining critical infrastructure. Through this coordinated approach, SD helped enhance pedestrian safety, improve connectivity along the corridor, and extend the life of the bridge.
