Our team assisted in creating the master plan with assistance from the Ingham County staff and greater Lansing community by designing a visionary plan that provided for four-season interest and activities as well as connection to the Lansing River Trail. This included the development of one of the first “Urban Snow Parks” in the country. Spalding DeDecker staff was responsible for the site design and project administration for an MDNRTF grant originally slated for just tubing. Additons included Snow skiing and boarding , 2 lifts, lighting, and snow making equipment, which changed the dynamic of winter activities entirely within the 2.5-acre portion of the existing park.
The master plan centered on an old gravel pit included within a 200-acre site. The master plan included: a swimming area, beach, beach house, showers, changing rooms, restrooms, canoe rentals, paddle boat rentals, launch site, small non-motorized marina, multi-use path system, ADA considerations, large and small pavilions, picnic areas, road layouts and parking lots, entrance with gate house, boardwalks, decks, lookouts, island renovations, winter sledding hill, winter cross country ski area, nature trails, preservation areas, and a connection with the City of Lansing Trail system. The final plan provided cost estimates for improvements, a five-year phasing plan, policy recommendations, assistance with their grant applications to the MDNR, a brief report and color plans.
Spalding DeDecker provided prime professional services to implement grants. Improvements include new paved pathways and boardwalk, fishing piers/overlooks/pedal boat docks and launch, park amenities, native landscaping, and sunshades.
