Spalding DeDecker (SD) delivered design and construction engineering services for the reconstruction of Miller Road, one of Flint’s most critical east-west corridors. The project combined infrastructure renewal with strategic design to enhance safety, accessibility, and mobility for residents and businesses alike.
SD implemented a road diet plan that improved traffic flow and multimodal safety while maintaining lane continuity throughout construction. The team’s maintenance of traffic (MOT) design ensured access to homes and businesses, and ADA-compliant sidewalk upgrades enhanced accessibility for all users. Coordination with MDOT kept the project on schedule amid shifting funding conditions.
The reconstruction also included water main replacement and careful preservation of the area’s historic character. Amid pandemic constraints, SD led virtual public engagement sessions, keeping communication open and transparent. The result is a revitalized, efficient corridor that balances modern infrastructure needs with the community’s enduring identity.
