Spalding DeDecker assisted Shelby Township (Oceana County) in creating the first Five-Year Recreation Master Plan for its parks system in 2020. Our team was retained by Richard Raffaelli, Peterson Farms, in Shelby, MI on behalf of an anonymous donor to develop a 30-acre parcel into a township park. The master plan was completed and included probable costs for the new park. Our team also wrote and managed the MDNR Land and Water Conservation Fund grant that helped the project come together.
Components within the plan included: Soccer Fields – 2 adult and 1 youth with bleachers on one field, irrigation, and benches on the second adult field. Natural grass, or Artificial Turf; a concession stand, restrooms, and storage building – 30 x 44 steel façade building, heated, well and septic, gravel parking lot; basketball court – asphalt, color coated, and fenced; 2 pickle ball courts; and a picnic area – near rail trail with grills.
