We are seeking a Construction Engineering Inspector with experience in the field as well as office experience in transportation and municipal projects. Relevant experience should include water main, sanitary sewer, road, pathways, and stormwater system.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree in Civil Technology, Bachelor of Science in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field
- Internship or co‑op experience in construction, engineering, or inspection preferred but not required
- Any previous survey instrumentation use and reading is considered a bonus
- Basic understanding of civil engineering concepts and construction practices (coursework acceptable)
Skills & Competencies:
- Ability to read and interpret basic construction drawings and plans.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to follow procedures, safety rules, and technical instructions
- Computer literacy, including email, Excel, Word; exposure to tools like Bluebeam or FieldBook is a major advantage.
- Strong communication, organization, and technical writing skills
- Must have a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
- Willingness to obtain relevant certifications (company‑supported), such as:
- Soil Erosion & Sedimentation Control
- Concrete or aggregate testing
- MDOT‑related training programs
Typical Duties & Responsibilities
- Interact daily with project team members, clients, contractors, and other project related persons
- Observe and document construction activities on municipal and transportation projects
- Follow established QA/QC procedures as trained
- Track and measure quantities of installed materials
- Verify materials meet project specifications (with guidance)
- Prepare Daily Inspector Reports
- Report concerns or construction issues to the Project Engineer
Work Environment / Physical Demands
Candidates must be willing to:
- Work primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Travel to project sites using a company vehicle
- Occasionally attend client or team meetings
- Work overtime as needed during peak construction periods
