Bosco Fields

The Project
Spalding DeDecker (SD) was contracted by the City of Novi to provide engineering and construction services to develop a park with numerous multi-sized soccer fields to serve a variety of teams. The improvements include access drives, pedestrian paths, a drainage system, a local well, and irrigation for the soccer fields.

The Challenge
The property was undeveloped and vacant for many years and was in need of re-grading. The City of Novi agreed to maintain the land as a public park, open for use by the general public, but not for private operation.

The Solution
SD developed conceptual plans for the multi-field layout, meeting with City directors to determine the most effective use of the site. The property is leased by the City from the local school district. Therefore, permanent improvements are kept to a minimum to facilitate future development when the need occurs.

SD used an aerial base map, supplemented with conventional ground surveying at critical design locations. A complete site walk through was performed to confirm all information taken from the aerial base map topography. SD developed detailed engineering plans, which included grading plans, drainage plans, irrigation plans, landscape plans, and entrance details.

The Impact
Extensive site drainage system carries stormwater to detention located in multiple grass swales, as well as the on-site detention basin. Site irrigation will be served by a new well, rather than pulling from the public potable water supply. Lights were placed at both park entrances, along with vehicular gates.
